Abstract

A teacher needs analysis conducted with several teachers at one school indicates the need to develop discovery learning strategies for implementing an immersive learning approach supported by digital technology. The analysis was conducted through a survey of teachers at one school using a Google Workspace Education-based instrument. Respondents were eight teachers from four subject areas: science, social studies, language arts, and mathematics. The analysis results indicate that teachers are highly prepared to provide applicable learning experiences and build student enthusiasm. However, there are challenges in implementing values such as the principle of respect, a growth mindset, and teachers' skills in dynamically changing learning strategies. Digital technology has been proven to assist the learning process, but its utilization can still be improved. Based on the analysis and discussion, several strategic recommendations are made for the need to develop a discovery learning model assisted by digital technology to support the effective and conscious implementation of an immersive learning approach. This is particularly true for strategies to strengthen exploration, inquiry, and problem-solving that are appropriate to the characteristics of junior high school students. One benefit of developing this discovery learning model is that it provides teachers with an alternative strategy to activate students in learning.
